The James Wand Interview

James Munton (a.k.a. James Wand) has performed his acclaimed Secret Agent Magic Show at schools and libraries throughout the United States.

Born in London, England, James apprenticed with a local magician and after graduating from college in the U.K., began performing professionally. Since moving to the United States in 1997, James has appeared at some of the most prestigious addresses in the United States, including the homes of ambassadors and cabinet members. He has performed at the White House three times!

In 2011, James had his first book published: The Con – How Scams Work, Why You’re Vulnerable & How to Protect Yourself. It has been acknowledged as one of the definitive books on the topic. His second book, CyberSense: the 7 Steps to Keeping Your Kids Safe Online has also received much acclaim.

What is your greatest extravagance? Travel and good food.
Which living person do you most admire? The next person who books my show.
What is your greatest fear? Driving on the scary part of Route 1 in California. I am not very good with heights.
What do you consider the most overrated virtue? Determination and hard work. Sometimes, it’s not a bad idea to give up and try something else!
What is your current state of mind? Busy.
On what occasion do you lie? I’m a magician, so every time I perform! 
Which words or phrases do you most overuse? Swear words.
What or who is the greatest love of your life? My wife and my daughter.
When and where were you happiest? Eating my home-smoked bbq brisket surrounded by friends and family
Which talent would you most like to have? To sing like Otis Redding and play the guitar like Prince.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? Never to grow old.
What do you consider your greatest achievement? To be one half of a jolly good team that made a third truly awesome human being.
Where would you most like to live? The White House.
What is your greatest regret? Not appreciating my teachers at the time.
What is your most treasured possession? My dog, Felix.
What is your motto? The person who laughs the most in life wins.
